  1. NSW Planet Fitness clubs will reopen 11 October at 5am.
  2. NSW Health have confirmed that all members who wish to attend gyms in NSW in person before December 1st, 2021, must be fully vaccinated. In order to ensure we are compliant with this condition; we are required to "sight" vaccination certificates as a condition of entry. In addition to this, members and guests will be required to check in using the NSW Service app and wear a mask in accordance with the NSW Government.
  3. Please note, all Planet Fitness team members are fully vaccinated.
  4. Full use of Locker room facilities are available with floor marked social distancing measures.

  7. Equipment on the gym floor will be spaced according to the 1.5 M mandate. That means every other cardio piece of equipment will be closed. In the strength training area, we will use floor decals and floor tape to ensure social distance measures are followed. (4 square metres) In the case where we have 2 of the same pin loaded machines, we may close one to create acceptable social distance. We will have 10 hand sanitizer wall units available throughout the club for use as well as the standard cleaning stations with disinfectant/sanitisation spray and paper towels.

We follow vigorous cleaning schedules all the time, but have increased frequency of cleaning in high traffic area of the club. You will see team members cleaning our facility and equipment at most times throughout the day.
  10. Our team members will be practicing the spray, wipe, spray method, by which our hospital grade sanitization solution will be applied, wiped down and then applied again. Our sanitisation solution kills pathogens and bacteria after 12 seconds of application. Sanitisation of our facility is a priority and you will notice additional signage up around the club mentioning the additional measures we see taking to ensure world class standards.

  13. If you held a prepaid membership that we set to expire between June 26th- October 10th, we’ve extended your membership by the amount of day we were closed.

Club Closures & Reopening Plans

Working closely with our franchisees, we are taking a thoughtful, and phased approach to reopening clubs based on local officials’ guidelines.

The safety of our staff, members, and community is our top priority as we reopen. When a club’s reopening date has been set, you’ll be the first to know! Members will receive an email with the reopening date and additional details about what to expect when you return for your first workout. You can also check your local club page on or your club’s Facebook page for updates.

We are proud of our high cleanliness standards and have extensive, cleaning and sanitization policies in place. Staff conduct regular and thorough cleaning of all equipment and surfaces throughout the gym floor. Regular, overnight deep cleaning is also conducted.

In preparation for reopening our clubs, we've taken several steps to strengthen our policies and procedures to help keep you and our team members safe! To name a few:

  • Increased sanitization stations throughout the gym floor: Our team members will be performing increased, thorough cleanings throughout all areas of the club using disinfectant effective against COVID-19.
  • Physical distancing measures: To allow for physical distancing, some pieces of cardio equipment will be temporarily marked out of use to create additional space.

You’ll also notice new signage throughout the club that helps to explain the steps we’re taking to keep our clubs clean, and our members and staff healthy. Finally, Planet Fitness and our franchisees will continue to follow local officials’ guidelines and adhere to any additional safety measures.

We are asking that all of our members Be Cleansiderate™ at our clubs and disinfect equipment before and after use. Additionally, you should plan to keep a safe distance by putting an imaginary treadmill or two between yourself and others.

You are welcome to wear any personal protective equipment (PPE) such as a mask or gloves to the club if you feel more comfortable. Together with our franchisees, we will continue to follow the recommendations of local authorities at each of our clubs in order to take every necessary precaution to ensure the safety of our community.

Make sure you check your club page on or your club’s Facebook page for updates on any local requirements. As always, please stay home if you’re not feeling well. Don’t worry, we will be here for you when you feel better!

Update on Planet Fitness' Mask Policy

Your health and safety is our #1 priority, and we're committed to keeping our clubs clean and safe. For the enhanced safety of our members, guests and team members, masks are now required except while actively working out, and in accordance with local restrictions, in all Planet Fitness locations worldwide, effective August 1, 2020.  This means that a mask must be worn at all times, and in accordance with local restrictions, in the club (except while actively working out) including when entering and exiting the facility, in between machines and exercises on the gym floor, cleaning, and while in the locker room and NOT behind a private enclosure such as a shower or tanning room. While you are actively working out, you do not need to have a mask on.

Wearing a mask in public is proven to help reduce the spread of COVID-19, and as a leader in the fitness industry, and your long-term partner in health and wellness, we are committed to doing everything in our power to ensure the health and safety of our Planet Fitness community. Thank you in advance for your support and adherence to this policy. This added safety precaution also helps us to remain open to serve you and keep you healthy and active.

Members and guests are required to wear a mask except while actively working out and in accordance with local restrictions. This includes upon entering and exiting the facility, and while in the facility except while actively working out, and in accordance with local restrictions, or behind a private enclosure (shower, changing room, tanning room, etc.) or drinking.

No, members and guests are NOT required to wear a mask while actively working out but must follow all local restrictions. But remember, members and guests must have a mask unless they are actively working out (and in accordance with all local restrictions) such as when individuals are entering and exiting the facility, cleaning equipment, and while walking on the gym floor between exercises.

Effective August 1, masks will be required at all times except while actively working out, and in accordance with local restrictions. If you have a medical exception that prohibits you from wearing a mask, or you prefer not to wear one, please reach out to your local club.

For the month of August, all Planet Fitness locations have disposable masks available if a member or guest forgets their mask. We’d be happy to provide one to you!

Stricter local requirements will be enforced above and beyond our mask policy.

Yes, team members are required to wear a mask at all times during their shift for their safety, and the safety of others. This policy has been in effect since we began reopening our stores on May 1.

We know that wearing a mask while working out may be new for some of our members. Here are a few tips from our awesome PF trainer Teddy Savage! You can also check out a video from him HERE.

Teddy’s tips:

  • Choose a mask that works for you. Don’t get caught up in the “one size fits all” thought process when choosing your mask.
  • Breathe to the beat of your own drum. Hum a little tune in your head to control your cadence of breath.
  • Infuse active rest in lieu of strict cardio. It may be slightly more challenging to do steady state cardio. So instead, do a few seconds of active rest when exercising. For example, if you’re on the treadmill jogging on an incline, decrease the incline or slow to a fast walk to catch your breath. Then, you can speed back up again.
  • Plan for breaks into your routine. Tactfully place breaks into your routine as you are getting used to working out with a mask.
  • Use shorter time intervals for your work to rest ratio. Instead of doing one 60 second time interval, break it up into two 30 second or three 20 second intervals.

Wear your Mask Correctly

  • Wash your hands before putting it on
  • Put it over your nose and mouth and secure it under your chin
  • Try to fit it snugly against the sides of your face
  • Make sure you can breathe easily

Membership Questions

Yes, we have proactively frozen all memberships on your behalf, and you will not be charged any fees while your club is closed. We will keep you informed and let you know when your club is ready to reopen, and look forward to serving you in a clean, sanitary, and judgement free environment. Can’t wait to see you back in the club soon!

If you have any questions about your membership in the meantime, visit and we would be happy to assist you.

Unfortunately the timing of mandates and closures lead to some of our members being billed shortly before we closed. Rest assured that you will not be charged for any days when the club was closed. We will make an adjustment on your next billing cycle when we reopen.

If you have a prepaid membership, the expiration date of your membership will be adjusted by the number of closed days. For example, if we are closed 30 days and your membership was set to end on or about November 30, that membership will be extended to on or about December 30.
